Every Step She Takes

At thirty-five, Seattle's Sadie Wells is desperate to escape her routines, the family business that has eaten her life, and a late-blooming bout of gay panic that has her questioning everything. When her injured sister hands over her spot on a walking tour of Portugal's Camino de Santiago, Sadie takes it, and after too much wine and a scary stretch of turbulence she confesses all her secrets to her seatmate, Mal. The plane lands safely, Mal turns out to be on the same tour, and the trip is specifically for queer women. Mal offers to help Sadie live the queer adolescence she missed during the two-hundred-mile trek, while grappling with a loss and an unexpected inheritance of her own, until what began as practice starts to feel real. Publishers Weekly gave this sapphic rom-com a starred review, calling it funny and poignant.
